Alright, so instead of selecting normal, choose none, it should look like this: https://imgur.com/nvW3ViJ
Good? (reply A1 if you're not)
Great, now spawn a new model of the character, it should just be the head, here's the version for scout: https://imgur.com/5lH7190
Going smoothly? Nice! (A2 if it's not)
Here's where it gets complicated...
Now, copy the motion samples from the headless model, and paste it onto the head model. It seems confusing, so here's are images showing the process:

Great, now lock the neck bone of the gibbed model to the neck bone of the head model, like so: https://imgur.com/9uVj4oG
(A4 if it's not working)
Finally, you can hide the selection menu of the head model so that it doesn't get in your way while animating/posing the actual model. You can always turn it back later for facial expressions!

(A5 if something's wrong)
Nice job, now continue with the 3rd part of the original guide and everything should work out well.
