I have a colony of 12 MAIs I made to support my main colony by strip mining mountains and sending everything back, then going to a new tile. Something I noticed is that if I put a shield belt on, they get unhappy nudity (no big deal for the debuff but the side message is really annoying) and their energy shield disappears. As far as I can tell there's no way to get their shield back, I equipped them with Marine armor but their chests clip through and it looks kinda ugly. I still play in 1.0 for now while the last of my mods update, but it would be neat if in the next update they either could wear shield/smokepop belts, they could wear regular armor/clothes without it looking weird, or they didn't get the unhappy nudity debuff (maybe a hidden nudist trait, i dunno)
