Yikes.
I've tried 3 times now, including once in mp with a friend playing portugal.
Every single time, if I refuse the annexation it immediately becomes a war that is effectively impossible to win before Japan joins the entente, resulting in me getting invaded by, at minimum, russia from the north, forcing me to divert troops to contain that border.
Then even if I capitulate japan, I'm still forced to be a part of the great war, and eventually UK and France (at minimum) will liberate japan, and invade me, because I simply cannot train and produce enough to fight them all navally and on beaches, as Korea's ship industry is literally ♥♥♥♥ all.
I'm aware of how to fix the issue by cheating, I was just wondering if there was any other way to do it. If not, I'd say that's pretty poor nation design. There ought to be some focuses or events which allow you to force an end to the war after a period of time, or allow you to invade Japan earlier, such as capturing a fleet in harbour or being supported by a nearby power etc.
Or even just forcing a stalemate with Japan before 1914 kicks off.
You don't even have to reload the save, you just have to click "play as" when you release it after annexing. That way there's no cheating or anything, just playing as a releasable.
