Not sure what else to say. Originally it crashed when I held it, then it progressed to letting me hold it for a little bit and now it crashes when I try to place a portal. Not sure why, I've tried everything including reinstalling gmod

it also crashes after i hold it for like 10 seconds

figured it out. for anyone else with this issue start your game with -dxlevel 90
