So, I have heard from another modder that my previous suggestion is impossible, which is a shame if you ask me (the imperialist vs republican idea) so, I have another suggestion. The Romans would probably hold no love to the Imperators even if the empire was at it's height during them due to the near-collapse of Rome during their government (And there would probably be a campaign to demonise them after the restoration of the republic), at least not a lot of love. But there would be a signifigant anti-republic movement due to the lack of expansion and economic stagnation during the republic. So I have another idea: A disaster, if the republic loses too much republican tradition (say less than 50) and/or goes into too much debt a disaster would occur where a general would attempt a coup'deat against the republic, and similiar to the golden ambriosian republic disaster you would be able to become either a military dictatorship (The imperial restoration) stay a republic, or even become a monarchy. Now I think that the monarchy one is justified since after centuries of dictatorial and ineffective republican rule there would probably be a movement inside of Rome that would romanstisise the monarchy and try to restore it.

So, good news. You know all those suggestions you've made before that were previously impossible or not in my priority or the mod? Well, guess what. After the last couple years of EU4 development, they now are possible! Also some major lore changes are taking place in an update that'll be posted shortly that will make some other things possible too. After which I'll be working on making the Pope his own province that only includes the Vatican City. Basically a micro nation that can't be annexed by Rome and is a pernimant subject so long as they stay Catholic. Fixing the issues with the Papacy.
