me too, when i press escape, all i can do is move the screen around and cant get out, only way is to quit the game and restart, and not to go in to first player cam,

you can set the hotkey to ‘x’（ or another key you like） instead of ’esc’

The same thing happened to me. The resolution was to ctl-alt-del and end the Cities Skylines task, restart the game. Go to the First Person menu and change the default from Esc to another key that is not used for any other shortcut (Numlock is the key I used) ESC is also binded to bring up the main menu so I believe there is a conflict when you use the same key for different mods.

Change the default key to enter/exit First Person to another unused key. It worked for me so I hope this helps you or someone else.

You may be using the Options menu by mistake. If you left click on the camera icon that is on your screen, that brings up the configuration menu and that is the menu you will find to change the keybind.

How dumb can a dev be to set ESC as the default key?

Same problem. Can't believe this hasn't been resolved. Surely they could add in a hardwired quit command...
