Edit: I actually identified the issue. I dont have a quick solution for it at this time. Basically the non-dedicated server is attempting to sync grids i explicitly flagged as non-sync'd - that is causing those large blips to appear. I will push in a bug report to keen as well.
You can work around the issue by using the dedicated server host, and having your friends connect to that.

I copied and pasted the exact name of the radar dish into every text box i could and still no connect.
Set up a radar and display table acording to your guide however the only grids shown when set to max scan range are the base ship and any small ships directly connected to it.
Despite being near several asteroids there are no voxel blips showing up on the grid either.
Are there any server side configuration files that may not be set correctly ?
I had a similar issue just in my non server game setup. Was near 4-5 asteroids and no blips came on screen for them (Yet my ship and some debris was listed)
