SPOILERS: I played it, I enjoyed it... but I didn't get it
Guys, I loved this mod, but probably I am too stupid to understand what happened. Let me explain...
I did not understand what caused their death, the cause of the quest. Who broke the law the first time? The dragonborn (but it would not make sense)? The guy from the dark brotherhood ? The jarl? Or the guys that attack the city at the beginning?

You can't complete the quest without breaking the law at least one.
So it was you.

But when you broke it once... Who is the threat then? Marius, Vernon or Gulvar?

It also makes me wonder who the original sinner was. Well you were, breaking the law at least once, but after all, you managed to fix it in the end, and you saw the total results after you've completed it, not before it.

I think the looters are the most probable possibility because without you, they would probably commit a crime soon (although haven't they done so by simply attacking you?). The Jarl didn't commit any crime which the busts would see, but maybe the truth was revealed, and the people overthrew and killed him in the end.

Well, whatever happened was effectively erased from the flow of time and doesn't matter anymore.
