You wire a button to the force field
You press the button
And you're done

@Johnny - that was something I never could figure out either - but I do know it had some flashy effects for the Zombie bomb and a couple of nukes. I'm guessing it's more of a containment field for bombs more than a actual defense. (think: Weapons Testing Shield")

@JuStX2 - Maybe protection against radiation effects caused by nukes?
And BTW, I'll at least 4 of them to make a square and get in the middle? Or one should protect?

They pass thru but they keep you from taking damage as long as you're near the forcefield, at least that worked for me.

They don't protect me. I get killed everytime, no matter what.

Sorry 'bout the necro BUT:
the forcefield protects against radiation, I found this out through extensive testing. To actually have any radiation present you need to go to the Gbomb settings and mark nuclear fallout. There you can also edit the range of the shield in what I assume is measured in cubic feet.

When you are in the nuclear fallout you see a static effect on your screen, however once you stray into the forcefield of your generator you will no longer see the effect despite how close the bomb was detonated.

Upon switching to a more recent version of the game however, this feature seems to have been broken.
