Survival mode doesn't spawn enemies, nor do I see a radio or button somewhere to start the siege.

The radio to start the siege is in the house with the weapons. It's on the floor on the left when you enter it. Enemies should spawn when you start the onslaught :D

There is no skybox for me, just the purple-black checker pattern. Please help!

Try verifying your game cache. The skybox is a default L4D2 one :steamhappy:
