Help in understanding the benchmark
I use this benchmark to see what I need to upgrade for my computer. I have an Fx-6300 @4.2GHz and a R7 260x with a light OC as well. I normally play on 800x600 to keep my fps above 144. in the benchmark I average 190fps at 800x600 and at 1080 I average around 150-160 depending on video settings.

However, in smokes I can drop all the way down to 40fps on 800x600 and 20fps on 1080.

Are the smokes GPU bound? or is it just my CPU and GPU together are too poor to deal with them (I know the smokes in the benchmark are really intense)

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it!

CS:GO is heavily leaning on the CPU (sadly).
And smokes in this benchmark are extra heavy and exaggerated.

I'd suggest upgrading the CPU first, if I check some benchmarks from your CPU vs mine (i7 4790k) then mine is nearly twice as fast with just a single core.
