Maybe I'm missing something, but is there a way we can keep connecting stairs to make a longer (more than 1 block) staircase? I've found that they end prematurely before reaching another "square" and won't connect to anything.

I was just trying to have two platforms, and a stair inbetween them... I could easily use a ramp, I just liked the aesthetic of the stairs better.

What's the point of the stairs if they can only ever be used on a ground floor so nobody sees that gap?
