I just tried that, but to no avail.
Just for your enlightenment, here is a screenshot of the game menu:

Looks like it MIGHT be missing something as well.
On the other hand, the normal game is fine.
*EDIT: For further fun and profit, here is screenshot from the Developer Tools - New Project set to use the exapmle map:

I click Play on Dying Light, select Custom Game, get in to the game, select the Dev Tools Example and get droppped in to a world that contains only the player model, the sky, a mini map and invisble zombies only visible on the minimap
