Team Fortress 2

The Not-so Longsword

Isn't this just Narsil from the Lord of the Rings?
If you look it up, this is just taking the hilt part of the Shards of Narsil, using the Lord of the Rings film design and removing the ornamentation. It's a really cool prospect for a knife, but I can't quite get behind it for essentially just cribbing from the movie. What do you think - are the two models different enough? Below is a link to the film model of Narsil for comparison.

I understand your point and I can say that my inpiration was narsil and the acharn. But if you compare the two you can clearly see that the cross guard is differend, the handle is differend and the Narsil is clearly a two handed sword instead of my version which is supposed to be one handed. Also the pommel part looks very differend. And what comes for the blade, well a sword can't really break any differently. If you look up images about broken swords the broken blades looks very simillar to each other.

It reminded me more of the one from Shadow Of Mordor, but I thought htis was really good. Keep up the good work, Mr. Suuri!

On my 10th read-through of Lord of the Rings. It's different.

Wait, Narsil is a one-handed blade, because Aragorn (am I spelling his name right?) uses it with one hand when the blade is repaired.

TF2 even has a bloody Fez, ffs, it was only a matter of time until some LotR items, even if outside of the design intentions slipped their way in. For once, some media has done fan service right.

Fair enough! And I can see that you have a lot of community support with this. While it may not may not tickle my fancy, I understand the work you've put into this, and I'm glad that the reaction you've received has been mostly positive. After reviewing my initial post I can see how it might have come across as overtly confrontational, and have amended the discussion title.

I actually like this idea (as many other geeky references to stuff other than TF2), and, as Love said,

half of the items in TF2 have reference to other movies/games

I also understand it looks like Narsil/Acharn, and the truth is, it is kinda supposed to. I came up with the idea of a Middle-Earth styled broken blade with Mooses Suuri, and we intentionaly designed it based on the movie interpetation of LOTR.
The sword itself, is NOT a direct copy of any work seen on film/videogames. It is purely been inspired by them, and specificly designed to fit in the world of Team Fortress 2.

I hope this clears things up a bit! :)

He is correct. This sword is quite different in many ways. This is close to a one-handed sword of the Rohirrim. Narsil is quite different in a lot of ways. By the way, I really hope this passes -- being a huge Tolkien fan.

PS: To those of you who are comparing it to a sword in Shadow of Mordor: Shadow of Mordor is extremely uncanonical. It is best to not compare it to the Lord of the Rings.

And no. It is a two-handed blade.
