Why does the HRE not have northern italy?
I just want to know, why you removed the northern italian provinces from the HRE. Most part of northern Italy stayed in the HRE until the late 1500s. Since the traditional start of EU IV is in the 15th century, northern Italy should be part of the HRE.

The only thing is, that they never became full members. They were not treated the same as the members in germany. But even though: They were part of it. :)

This should be in the suggestion thread and is but since people might actually bother to read this and I have seen this question asked 4 times already, even though it has been responded to, please leave this up. Could you possibly rename the discussion to, why the HRE does not have Northern Italy?

Here is the explanation from Golladan copied and pasted from the suggestions thread

"This was an intended change. Having Northern Italy in the HRE would cause trouble for Venice and their rivalry wars (specially the Trade Wars against Genoa) because the Emperor would ALWAYS interfere. We attempted to just remove Genoa from the HRE, but this then cause the issue where Genoa was kind of stuck as everyone around them were in the HRE, and any attempts at expansion would, again, cause the Emperor to inerfere. So we removed NI from the HRE to allow for better gameplay in the area.

Also, while Northern Italy was technically in the HRE, they didn't really involve themselves in HRE politics that much. They were more or less HRE members in name only."

I agree.

Okay, I didn't understood my question as a suggestion, that's why I created the post. ;)

Still not agree with Golladan on the topic, but it's not my mod so I have to live with it and I can do that. This mod is terrific and that's only a minor problem. :)

as part of the modding team I can tell y'all that gameplay will always win out over historical accurcy. Besides, the HRE did not really rule northen itilay. Not directly at least. They were more of a semiprotectorate/vassle.

... y'all that gameplay will always win out over historical accurcy ...

Yeah, I know that. :) And it's the only reason EU IV is such a great game. :)

I'm just not happy with that change. :) But don't get me wrong: I love that mod. It's just that what you love you always try to protect. ;)

Not all that inaccurate though. Before 1648 the emperor had very little control over the Italians and none at all after 1648 which is about halfway through the timeline of the mod. In reality it is kind of doubtful that the Emperor would have actually tried to help Italians that were being conquered by France. The emperor in the 1200's and 1300's regularly invaded Italy himself, and with no representation in the election process the Italians were not exactly very tied to the HRE. Being de jure a part of something does not really make it historically accurate to portray it as if it is de facto part of something. If you make a game about even the present day for instance, where countries and borders are much more static, it would still be innacurate for gameplay reasons to not give the Taliban and IS their own countries.

It was similar to the relation with the dutch, mainly for protection. And just noteing Charles V aided the duke of milan against france while he was emperor of the HRE, though probably just to fight france.
