I need to purposefully make it really hard for people to get ahold of me or I just don't get a break.
As much as I love the game and modding it's just a hobby, and it already takes up 99.9% of my free time.
My advice to anyone is to NEVER start a DayZ server. It's a complete timesink. The only reason I have mine is because I've sunk too much time into it and I'm addicted to coding and modding lol.
That being said.. the reason why most of the stuff you said is happening is due to missing server-side config.
I don't have time to help you set everything up - but if you go to my GitHub the old server config files for my old server are all on there (with the Sanctuary spawning barrels & quest config etc etc)
There are literally hundreds of mods sprinkled through our server pack, some I don't even remember adding or even know how to separate - running a complex dayz server is simply not possible to copy & paste a new setup. You will have to do A LOT - and I mean A LOT (hundreds of hours) of setup to get it working even close to what we have running.
My server took literally 3 years of weekly work to get it to where it is. And it's not that the backend config is a secret or anything - there's just SO, SO, SO much config files, tweaks, custom mods, 3rd party mod overrides, and black magic wizardy that goes into getting everything running smoothly that I couldn't teach someone how to do it even if I wanted to because I've forgotten half the ♥♥♥♥ I've done over the years.
My advice is to just start small and make your own server the way you want it - don't try to copy our server too closely because there's just way too much going on. Running a server is no joke. It's a full-time job, literally, with no pay. Even donations and buymeacoffees only scratch the surface of the time and money I've put into my server.
Anyway... hope that helps, don't want to discourage you, just want to be real.
You can find the old server's server-side config files here: https://github.com/ZenarchistCode/HardcoreDayZ_ServerConfig
For any mod-specific stuff you'll just have to learn how to mod yourself (I'll make more detailed modding guides on my YouTube when I find the time) and take a peak into our server pack files to see what you need - but as I said, be warned, it's a rabbithole you will never recover from and it's something that will eat up all your free time possibly for the rest of your life lol.
Take care,
Zen
Thanks for the reply!
No worries about being hard to reach. I mean, I’m really sorry for adding more to your already packed schedule! But thanks so much for taking the time to reply! Especially with how busy things are for you, I really do appreciate it a lot :D
Everything you said makes total sense. I didn’t realize just how deep that rabbit hole actually goes haha. I’ll look through the configs again more closely and see what’s going on on my end.
And don’t worry, I wouldn’t make a public server copying your stuff. It was just meant to be a small singleplayer project I looked forward to playing... which has somehow turned into a not-so-small project i still havent played yet haha! The dang "ExpansionTraderCashier.Black_Market" is being a real pain still lmao anyway-- xD
If you happen to find what I need, great! If not, no worries at all. This was kind of a hail-mary attempt to reach you before I was able to pay (sorry again for not just going the coffee route). Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if you took ages to reply with a fix here or made a YT vid with more modding guides if it means you get a bit more breathing room and some actual you time away from us demanding DayZ players xD
Anyway, congrats on the new wife and the business, dude! That’s awesome news!!! :D I know you mentioned how little free time you have, but like I said before, I still hope you get some much-needed rest and downtime here and there you’ve definitely earned it!
You’re seriously one amazing person, And I think half the DayZ community would agree you’re some kind of wizard at this point haha. The amount of time and passion you’ve poured into your work has left a real mark on so many people, including me. What you’ve built has brought a lot of joy, inspiration, and good memories to players all over.
And please give my regards to the wonderful Spacecat if you see this! they’ve clearly been a huge help along the way and are just as appreciated! :D
Thanks again for writing back and explaining things, it really does mean a lot. I’ll try to scrounge some money when I can and send you some much-deserved coffee!! <3
All the best,
Izzy
