Village Militia - Irregular - Tier 1 - Default
Has a weak three-shot ranged attack and Demolisher and Volunteer.
Gain Defensive Arts on gold rank, improving their defense within friendly domain.
Analysis: Due to their low upkeep they can work well as cheap archers to defend settlements in early game, especially beneficial for Warlords using Raise Militia. Despite their low damage, their three-shot attack makes them decent ranged units. Demolisher will rarely be used and is mainly for flavor (the axe!).

Ji Conscript - Pikeman - Tier 1 - Barracks
Pikeman with Armored and the Armor Piercing ability.
Gains Overwhelm on gold rank.
Analysis:
While quite average for a pikeman, they are available in barracks instead of war hall, allowing them to be produced much earlier, and are quite versatile with armor piercing and overwhelm on rank. Their upkeep can be halved with the Protector Military governance.

Crossbow Conscript - Archer - Tier 1 - Barracks
Single-shot armored archer with physical and blight damage. Gains Inflict Severely Poisoned on gold rank.
Analysis:
As some of their damage is blight-oriented they will be less effective against undead and other creatures resistant or immune to blight. Against enemies without this or weak to blight however they can be deadly, especially with the Patron Military governance. Upkeep can also be halved with the Protector Military governance.

Blade Guard - Infantry - Tier 2 - War Hall
Shielded, armored melee unit with Projectile Resistance and Defensive Arts, giving it higher defense within friendly domain. Gains Inflict Bleeding Wounds on bronze rank and Defensive Strike on gold rank.
Analysis:
Effective defender against physical ranged attacks and even more so within friendly terrain. In the later game, can be produced quickly to protect your more developed cities.

Light Cavalry - Cavalry - Tier 2 - War Hall
Armored cavalry with Plains Running and Leap Strike, allowing it to attack an enemy and jump behind it as a free action. Gains Sprint on gold rank.
Analysis:
As Leap Strike is affected by Charge this can be used to devastating effect. Their low defense and hitpoints compared to other cavalry however means they need to be used with some caution. Their attack and defense can be improved with the Champion Military governance.

Blessed Maiden - Support - Tier 2 - Temple
A support unit with a fire/spirit ranged attack, Cure Disease, Wetland Foraging and Living Light, a 10hp ranged healing ability with a 1-turn cooldown. Gains Dispel Magic on bronze rank and Inflict Spirit Breaking on gold rank.
Analysis:
Having a ranged healing ability with low cooldown allows it to quickly save units on the brink of death without risking it's own life rushing up to them. But as this is all this ability does and the hitpoints provided are fairly low it's main role is to keep units healthy while standing in the background.

Celestial Guard - Pikeman - Tier 3 - Divine Pagoda
Armored pikeman with Tireless and Defensive Arts. Has Wide Slash, allowing it to hit three enemies up to three times per turn at the cost of damage output, only taking retaliation from the enemy directly facing them.
Gains additional shock protection on bronze, Inflict Bleeding Wounds on silver and Killing Momentum on gold rank.
Analysis:
While having fairly average stats and slow speed, Celestial Guard's ability to hit up to three enemies every turn and not losing action points from retaliation means that once engaged in melee they can cut down multiple at once. Since they only take retaliation damage from whomever is directly facing them means that positioning is key and they can be placed in such a way that they take no retaliation at all but one should also be careful with placement of allies.
They are however weak to ranged attacks and should be supported by other units to counter this weakness.
With Prophet Military governance their damage can be strengthened by 2 spirit damage and defender, allowing them a stronger defensive role, especially if unable to reach their foe for multiple strikes that turn.
