abyss runes

thats right baby. i got abyss support.
it isnt like "balanced" balanced, but honestly these runes are probably underpowered compared to the base game characters runes.


-----passive runes-----
-RuneG (2 slots)
runeG grants ronald the ability to air-dash by pressing taunt and a direction in the air.
slower than alzters variation. allows you to combo off of aerial go happy, low percent back air, and do some crazy approaches, like retreating burger lob into dash in.
crazy recovery, crazy recovery mixup, boosted combos, safer approaches, better stage presence, improved escapes. this is a general improvement that is almost never unwarranted.
air dash is faster and has better frame data/cooldown if golden.
allows you to combo off of aerial go happy.

-RuneO (3 slots)
no longer activates all runes. if you want to do that, use the overflow code.
instead, this grants passive meter gain and regeneration.
it also increases ronalds weight.
overall, it is a dramatic increase in survivability and rewards safe gameplay with supers and meter gain.
meter gain and regen are faster if golden.


-----basic enhancement runes-----
-RuneD (1 slot)
grants two new projectile attacks.
fry geyser (special during forward strong startup) is a powerful wide area anti-air with high kill power.
frier oil (special during forward air startup) is a long range, fast and large area sweeping projectile that ignites targets and has high kill power compared to the rest of ronalds kit. (sprite work courtesy of nolan dolal by SAI)
both are premier kill options but fry geyser is situational and slow, and frier oil can be difficult to confirm, as well as stunning you if parried.
if you land a rising forward air or shorthop forward air, frier oil is confirmed, but the input must be made before the hitbox comes out.
they are connected to the same cooldown that limits their use, indicated on the hud by french fries.

-RuneE (1 slot)
RuneE increases stage control of cheese sheet and boiling cheese by 50%.
EX boiling cheese is indestructible and can only be lost by its timer, not enemy attacks.

-RuneF (1 slot)
Grants super armor on go-active active-frames, but not charge, startup or endlag.
doesnt effect go happy.
great for anti-zoning, breaking into a defense, recovering against an edge guard, or just closing distance.
with go-active (especially the grounded form) being a premier kill option for ronald, making it uninterruptible can really help break those high percent kill droughts.

-RuneK (2 slots)
allows you to use up special twice in the air, and two more times on walljump.
while your mind may go to how much better his recovery gets with this (and it does), it is much more accurate to say this is an aggressive rushdown rune.
ontop of having more access to a phenomenal combo tool and the ability to carry very close to the top, the risk of wasting up-specials offensively is WAY lower, and you can do it way more.
this is ronalds best combo rune.


-----new move runes-----
-RuneA (1 slot)
grants the ability to use will-o-wisp. (forward taunt)
will-o-wisp is a slow heat-seeking projectile that deals low damage and has a chance to instantly build 25% meter on hit.
it can be destroyed by enemy attacks, or if the enemy dodges through it.
it can also be played around with good timing and positioning to act as a combo starter\extender, to set up a kill confirm or frame trap, and it stuns briefly on hit for combo potential.
this projectile never times out if golden.

-RuneB (1 slot)
grants the ability to use soul siphon. (up-taunt)
soul siphon is a lingering hazard that floats in place and deals low damage with a light upward knockback and good stun, as well as gaining a soul point on hit.
it no longer heat seeks like alzters.
it can be destroyed by enemy attacks, or if the enemy dodges through it.
it acts as a secondary cheese with a much bigger reward, albeit easier to destroy and covering less area.
this hazard never times out if golden.

-RuneC (1 slot)
grants the ability to use MAC barrier. (down taunt)
MAC barrier is a wall that blocks projectiles and movement and can give you an opportunity to stall or prep, and force an approach.
since your projectiles no longer go through it, it isnt some dumb busted burger zone move, BUT it is the perfect height for you to short-hop waveland over, and does very little to get in your way as a result.
additionally, the upward archs of both burger lob and McShake can get over it, as well as being able to plant bombs behind it if you're right up against it.
will-o-wisps also go through it for useful synergy.
if you have a soul point, this consumes it and creates a taller barrier. this taller barrier is the perfect height for a full hop waveland.

-RuneH (2 slots)
grants the ability to SUMMON (we don't use people here) ronald girl. (special during down strong charge)
the alignment has been adjusted to barely clip the corner of the opponent if they stand still, so if you face away, it will hit better while they retreat, and if you face them, it will hit better while they approach.
this now has a cooldown so it makes no difference if she lands on stage or not.
deals less knockback, but unlike alzters ronald, you can still use normal down strong with it equipped.
she travels faster and is therefore more accurate if golden.
her cooldown is indicated by the golden arches in the hud.

-RuneI (2 slots)
grants the ability to use wall of french fries. (special during up strong charge)
these hot and fresh fries are too soft to deal damage, but have increased stun and set opponents on fire.
they can be reflected or destroyed.
uses the same cooldown as fry geyser and frier oil, to prevent stacking walls and anti-airs annoyingly.
can still use up strong normally.
this last longer if golden.

-RuneJ (2 slots)
grants the ability to use EX burger launch (strong during neutral special charge, grounded) and EX burger spike. (strong during neutral special charge, aerial)
these are useable for free, but have a cooldown. if you have any soul points, you can spend one to use it off cooldown.
burger launch is a brutal aerial control option, with a massive hitbox that will catch almost any air dodge. it also isnt reflected by parries, doesnt stun you if parried and isnt destructible. deals good damage and has good kill power.
burger spike is similar but thrown and downwards and spikes. this is a brutal offstage kill move but also gives you much more height than its non-EX form, fanned burgers, allowing it to be used to recover.
can infinite recover if you have enough soul points.
the cooldown is indicated on the hud by the burger icon.


-----super runes-----
-RuneL (3 slots)
unlocks ronald magic. (special+taunt)
for some reason special+attack still activates this beneath 100 super, but if you have a full meter then special+taunt can use this without wasting your full meter.
while it does have a brief startup, smaller area, lower damage and lower knockback, this is an easily confirmed and strong kill option.
it also stuns like mcshake, allowing it to be used as a combo extender off of many attacks.
it resets the combo counter, so meter gain off of combos that use it will be minimal.
regardless of the fact its somewhat costly, it is a much needed addition to ronalds kit that will all but remove kill droughts.
you can be stunned if this is parried. (hypothetically...)

-RuneM (3 slots)
unlocks za warudo. (attack+dodge while grounded)
this has barely been adjusted. considering how much weaker EVERYTHING you can do during it is, i even considered buffing it but didnt.
combined with projectile runes it can be kinda strong, given that other than EX burgers, projectiles don't have cooldown during this.
and with EX burgers, activating this with a high number of siphons can be a guaranteed kill. (albeit high cost)
during za warudo, EX down special is free of cost.

-RuneN (3 slots)
unlocks McBurst. (attack+special while in hitstun)
combo breaker and knockback cancel. spends a third of a meter to escape any combo and survive any hit, and even reverse it into a combo.
might be a little busted, but hey, meter is in short supply for this short fella.
deals basically no damage.
deals increased stun if golden.
