So far, I've only gotten to GU, but I think I have a theory on WHY the seer is so weird...

So, the most obvious strange thing about the Seer is their description. Supposedly, their whole situation was caused by something that happened prior to the start of the story, an expedition that left them unattuned.

My first thought was that this has to be Saint. Saint's story ends with them almost, or even completely, becoming an echo. They're both spiritual slugcats who start at low karma, and a golden dreamcat appears for a moment in Saint's place at the end.

But it can't be Saint, because this takes place post-rivulet, where the rain is still a constant presence, but not as deadly. Not only that, but Saint would still look like Saint, and Saint retains a higher karma count.

But you must have noticed something: doesn't Seer look similar to Monk? Not only that, but the two have similar throw strength and an omnivorous diet. So, what if Seer IS Monk?

Specifically, a Monk who failed to ascend, because they weren't able to detach themselves completely, because they tried to ascend before they could find Survivor. Monk was very attuned to the world, to the point that gates would allow them to pass at any time. So instead of being echo'd, or destroyed like Artificer, the void kinda just... spat them out in Necropolis.

It's a kinda half-baked theory, and I'm still looking for the Grey Urban echo (so please, no spoilers yet), but I just wanted to share it, see what people think. If anyone has their own theory, I'd really like to hear it.
