Once you have this core strategy figured out, maybe put an invincible dreadnought to soak up turbolaser fire, everything kind of falls into place. But without the fighter upgrade, the Republic's Capital ships just aren't as good as the Confederacy's imo.
Interesting. I though Venator cmd ship spam + something else as a carrier, vicII (AA ships) was the only economical, but boring, solution. However then you need to turn tail and retreat when your (jedi) fighters are spent as the CIS bombers will get you and also you cannot protect your bombers/strikecraft anymore to knock out CIS brawler shields and artilley ships. If you do this right (key is to be aggressive with bombers/strikecraft) you can knock out a full popcap fleet and more before retreating w/o losses.
I am curios though. CIS usually spawns alot of brawlers and they charge you AND spawn in close to you as reinforcements. Will your acclamators not melt away super fast making this approach very risky and not so economical (not losing ships is important on hardest difficulty) ? Or are you saying you can eliminate all incoming CIS threats (artilley/bombers/charging brawlers) using just 12 bombers and 12 z95s in a prolonged fight? It may be the case, bombers and strikecraft are powerful..
