The language key of chinese is simp_chinese, not chinese
current filename is stress_bar_l_chinese.yml, it can't be read.
correct one is stress_bar_l_simp_chinese.yml

Thank you for spotting this small overlooked detail.

For a fast compatibility adding, you can post CM_character_stress_bar to workshop description, telling other modder all it need to be done is just need adding a line using = CM_character_stress_bar after vanilla stress bar.

BTW, this is a Character GUI compatibility hub
RUI:Character Unofficial, compatibility with this mod is integrated.
