same. I'm on steamdeck. I love this mod but it has wiped out captions across the game and unsubscribing hasn't restored them, even on a new game.

Yup, the mod limit is the main issue. It seems I can only enable around 41 mods to make this mod work, any more than that It just completely broken

I'm playing with commentary mode on.

At first I had to go back into the menu and reload the saved file in order to restore the subtitles. I recently discovered that toggling a comment node on and off seems to fix the problem, until another comment node is activated mind you.

Ok, I found out why the captions aren't working. It's not this mod! If any large amount of workshop addons are enabled in-game, the captions don't work. So this is Valve's problem.

There is a Captions fix mod for Black Mesa. I tried applying that fix here, but I don't know how to compile a VPK.

Mods limit seems to be the problem. I don't think VALVe would be very happy if we publish the officials HL2 captions on the workshop to fix the problem... I don't even know if that will "fix" it... Best to wait for VALVe I think.
