To improve performance, it gets hidden when you're far away, along with many other small details in various parts of the map. If it's not visible when you're this close, it probably got disabled or removed entirely somehow, e.g. using the remover tool in sandbox mode. Restarting the map should restore it in that case.
If restarting doesn't help, my best guess is that you're using some kind of performance/optimization addon or config that's changing things it shouldn't be changing. Be aware that these tools will pretty much always lead to a compromised experience, one way or another. If there was some way (beyond what's possible with the in-game settings) to improve performance with no significant drawbacks, the game would likely already be doing that by default.
