I don't say it's unfair or whatever, but the hired faction is, by definition, stronger than everyone else since they have no weaknesses (they have all the units possible). Which is balanced by not being the best anywhere (IE other factions have better in their specific role). Except for crossbow, where they are the best.
Maccavian both in lore and in the game is the crossbow faction. They have a unique crossbow, unique ammos, and the highest crossbow proficiency of all the "regular" faction. Except for the hired soldier, which have more stats.
I can't talk about the other faction, but Hakkon seems rather strong. They have taken over the dwarf in my game, and assimilated many lords. They are rather scary right now.
