That way we can achieve peace and harmony within our community.
Right, go ahead and call your next painting the Mona Lisa because it hasn't been updated in so long the name is available again.
I'm an artist who takes pride in his work and I'm wondering why if there is a map on the workshop called Vandal that is like 10+ years old, why would he take the name? Even in mainstream music people use the own unique song names as often as possible
No I don't agree, I hold mapping to a very high standard, same as music or film.
I came up with Vandal, why can't this dude respect that?
In all other artistic professions, we try to avoid taking things that are already used. It is going to happen that there are many songs called "love hurts", but the name vandal has many alternatives, like Ruffian.
It's not acceptable someone released another de_dust, sorry name is taken.
It is still theft of a map name. The name Dust is generic as well, doesn't mean you can use it.
All you can do is make excuses lol
also the _dust maps are official maps (including all the versions like dust2 and dust), which are monetised and are of property to Valve. Workshop maps aren't, with the exception of the couple maps Valve bought (Anubis). as it stands, the copyright for workshop content is generally protected under the bleak definitions of Creative Commons, as the workshop is un-monetised and operated under Valve. so technically you have no right to claim original ownership as the creator has not used any likeness from your map, including assets and ideas.
Painting cant updating. You're missing the point of the conversation. Your map is abandoded and didn't get into operations, so what do you care if someone else used the same name(greed) . And you became proud, you are comparing yourself with widely recognized genius, not with millions of artist, who people dont remember and who have same names of paintings. And Mona Lisa is widely known and just bad manners naming same name, not really ban - your map is not widely known
