The biggest thing I want to get right on that is the animation. If I can figure out a good way to get the animation, it will be a very satisfying experience. I just don't want to put it out without it, otherwise it's not much different from the gate. :-)
Minor hijack: How do i get ZPMs in survival? I haven't found any when exploring, but again ive only found Midway Station.
As for the ZPM, they are in various Stargate themed exploration ships. Cargo ships might also have them. Look for the Destiny, Tel'Tac and Al'kesh ships.
Aren't cargo ships disabled due to some bug with planets?
Cargo ships are disabled yes, but I don't know about random encounters.
Random encounters aren't i saw a midway station yesterday
I am not an expert, but maybe it could be possible to use piston's animation for the rings platform: the platform itself would be the "piston" body and the rings that comes out of it would be the "piston head", as i said i am not an expert but maybe it could be a way to have the animation you are looking for, in the TV show/movies the platform open a gap and all the rings come out from it one after the other, so idk if there is a way to have the same effect, but who knows, you guys are just so good that everthing is possible (and even if the animation is not COMPLETELY the same i think that no one will be mad at you :) )
i would not use a piston but a air tight gate with the needed textur that ony shows the rings with the remaning clear so as the gate closes you will only see 1 ring come out of the floor at a time and it would follow the last ring until all are in place
I had thought about it but while hangar doors are solid blocks, piston are already empty inside, if you remove the head you can actually "enter" the piston, so the collision block is alredy there it just have to be modified to be shorter and wider and the animation is almost the same, in fact the piston parts come out from the piston body one after the other, the only thing is that it would need to be "inverted" to match the rings order while hangar door parts come out in the right order already ...
