Now for what I know, which is very little: most of the geographic locations give xp for visiting, and the descriptive prose and unique artwork are the point.
The Ent Water is 1 of only 2 true "quest locations" that I know of, although there may be more. The other quest location I know about is Moria, which you should definitely explore before one of the northern armies burns it out.
There are other unique locations where battles take place, but those are part of MQ plotlines, like the siege of Isengard happening at its corresponding unique location, so I don't count those.
In addition to the unique locations there are some special quests you can get from various leaders which will spawn special locations, like "Kill the Evil Necromancer" which spawns a unique lair and so forth. Those are a lot of fun and a change of pace from the usual chasing around the map.
In my next run, I want to delay the war as much as possible so I can explore more of the map, hunt for special items (I even heard something about a “Book of Moria” somewhere on the forums?), and build up relations with allied factions. That’s why I really appreciate finding out about these quests I’ve missed and it gives me the chance to dive deeper and really experience each city, since the game world feels so alive. Thanks a lot for the reply and for sharing this information!
I’d also really appreciate learning more interesting details about both the good and evil sides, and would be most grateful for any tips anyone can share!
