Definitely work off inspiration or work off a sketch/model of something that is similar to what you are trying to make. It's a lot easier to build when you have a visual representation. For example, the helmets I made are loosely based off the halo helmets

And to help with building you can get a few mods that make it way easier to work with, like the invisible wire mod, contraption corruption remover etc
