Most likely you have a conflicting version installed. Make sure no other version of this campaign are on your computer (neither installed nor subscribed in workshop except this one.) No one else reported this issue, so this must be it. Same goes for those who join you. They must have only this version installed.

Nothing's conflicting with the map add-on. Trying to connect to a friend who's hosting and me nor my other friend could load in

@MikeZ, I think I know why your friends couldn't join you. I had wrong download link listed in the mission file. I am very sorry for this. The download link when searching for lobby, should now take people to my version of this campaign.

Does that mean the map has been updated with a working version?

@MikeZ, It means, that if you host a lobby and someone who has not downloaded this version clicks on download link, it will take them to workshop page of my version of this campaign and if it's actually the reason why your friends were getting the error. (most likely string table different) It should fix this

Yes

Sorry for the late reply. Thats probably it. Disable the custom special infected or ask your friends to do this. Options >> Multiplayer >> Custom server content = None
