Is it the engine.. or the map?
I love the sh*t out of Call of the Dead, possibly top 5 OAT for me. To see it be remade is possibly one of the greatest things I've ever seen, and one of my most anticipated gaming remakes ever, personally.

However, I can't shake this feeling of this remaster just being meh to me. I don't know if its something about the Bo3 system, or just my brain being used to Bo1 COTD, but it kind of just haunts me the entire time. The map is gorgeous, and clearly a lot of hard work went into it. I do think that for the original there was a sense of difficulty considering how ♥♥♥♥ the VR-11 and Scavenger we're back on Bo1 and it made it more strategic and more skill reliant. It made the EE so important to do, because you could get that Wunderwaffe for free every time you kill George, but now it's like it's not needed. It could definitely be something about the Bo3 system with AATs and weapons being good on their own, but it is just kind of how I feel.

For a general complaint, I will say that the water is way more annoying compared to the original. It feels like Bo3 Origins Mud but you can't jump for sh*t, and it just makes it feel like such a slog.

I think adding Bo3 Weapon support to make it feel like a true Treyarch remaster, something that was supposed to be on Chronicles, would make the map feel great. It doesn't need to be universal, just a flip of a switch, or an extra downloadable mod.

There was genuinely something about how ♥♥♥♥ the Bo1 mechanics and weapons were that to see them be completely revamped and buffed kind of just hurts. But there's not a lot of other people that may agree, and I completely understand that.

As well, there was an add amount of drops that I got while playing. As I frequently played a lot of Bo1 in the past year or two, I noticed that the drop cycle was very unforgiving, and hard to get around. Ammo would be a big problem, and it allowed for "on-the-fly" strategy, like PHD Flopper being used 12 times in a row to kill one zombie. Or being forced to use nades,or being forced to buy a new gun. In the remaster, it feels like drops appear at an extreme rate that is a little annoying, and unpredictable. And this plays into my Bo1 bias again, but it just doesn't feel how it should. It's like there's a weaker Power Vacuum always active.

I've also seen a lot of people complaining that there's no Perkaholic, or Shopping Free. Honestly, I think they should stay out of the game. For the past however many hours I've already poured into this remaster, I think that Gobblegums wear the map down, and should stay out. It's about the feel of the original that is personally most important to me, and to see people complaining that it's not any easier than it already is, is a little disappointing.

I think this remaster is amazing, and the creators should be proud of everything they've done to create it. I'm excited to see if they come up with more remasters, or any original works. I don't want to turn any one away from liking this map, because I genuinely believe its f*cking amazing.

I didn't mean to write a whole essay on this, but I did. And here we are.
