Solution to getting stuck at workshop download
Had the same issue. Could not join because stuck at 'retrieving files from workshop'. The issue is the mod files are not automatically downloaded from workshop when joining the map.
You need to subscribe to 2 workshop items:
Horde Sandcastle and Chiv Admin
Download them via the Chiv Launcher
Verify that the files are downloaded in the cooked sdk.
Then joining server works because it detects that all required files are already available

"what i did was delete all files that i downloaded by going into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\chivalrymedievalwarfare\UDKGame\CookedSDK. I then deleted all the files in the folder..."

Does not work as of now.
I was once playing this game mode a lot, it now won't work anymore.
Tried everything, from deleting all, to manual download, to subscribe/unsubscribe.
It's just plain broken and mod is abandonned.
