once I get to custom battle it crashes.

I downloaded this yesterday. The first siege went well, but the others have crashed, exactly after the battle is finished also. Feeling the same as you, unplayable?

I had the same issue. Try changing your game version to 1.2.10, fixed it for me

For me it crashes at the start. Did everything by the guide on a steam page. Have tryed on 1.2.9, 1.2.10, 1.2.11 versions

Try installing Better Exception Window, it will generate a more detailed crash log and can indicate if there are any mod incompatibilities or at least help pinpoint your issue
