I have been using Forest Brush Revisited since CS v1.16.1-f2. Upon updating CS to 1.17.0-f3, the mod operated normally for some time, until it stopped painting any new trees yesterday. Erasing trees still works normally and changing any of the brush, tree, or shape settings does not seem to make a difference. I use the current stable mod version, v1.3.17 with vanilla settings. The problem persists on the current test version of the mod, v1.4.10.
