There is no current way to select AI equipment and we are currently busy with work on the integrated AI mod and thus we can give no ETA on when such a system may be developed or implemented.

There is a way to equip them with whatever you like. Obviously it only works with unlocked equipment though.

Make a few loadouts (can be a pain as sometimes the arsenal doesn't let you add any ammo etc) take control of the AI (select one AI at a time, command option, control AI) and simply walk up to the arsenal and select the loadout. I do this all the time if I'm going into a battle I know the AI will be out of ammo in a few mins.

As much as I love the mod I wish the AI would actually take more ammo or better weapons.

There is little we can do about that except spawn less things, which would make the mission easier.

If you are struggling with lag/framerate then your best action is to change your graphics settings.
