In very old builds of addon there were used to be actual random spawning docile marines and they worked fine. No idea how it is now, since they don't spawn randomly anymore. Logically there shouldn't be any problem with that, but again I can't know for sure.
Perhaps, it's not the best idea to give it to random guards.
