I, too, would love to see this... in fact, the lack of transparency options is a dealbreaker for me. Reduced awareness makes sense, but a complete lack of awareness is excessive to me. When I read, I can glance up and continue to remember (A) my position on the page and (B) what I'm reading without slowing down that much. I would prefer to avoid making player simulate that tediously by pressing R a lot, especially since I am a gamepad player with no easy access to R. (Not sure if you want to add a gamepad update to begin-and-end reading someday, but the corresponding button would be the PlayStation-Square / Xbox-X / Switch-Y button.)

I just manually remove the entire fog script in the lua file xD such a nuisance

Now you can tune darkness in sandbox options, even turn it off.
