Best way of playing this how I feel is intended.
Get the Enhanced Water addon, Auto-Mount Ladders, And any form of empty hands mod.

DO NOT SWIM. Enhanced water lets you walk across the seafloor, You will be playing this like SOMA.

You will be unarmed and afraid, Fight charles with your bear hands (that's a typo but i love it.) It will be fun trust me ;)
(+15 to the fear if you still don't know the map is devoid of enemies.)

Optionally, You can use a gas-mask mod or the P.E.S to really get immersed.
Optionally x2, Get the Cbobbing mod, And set cl_cbob_compensation to 0, You can set the intensity to anything, I have it on 1.5 because it kinda looks like the viewbobbing in Frictional games.


Edits: Removed, Then Re-added the P.E.S/Any Gas-Mask mod.

also, if you know any other mods that let you walk underwater easier, or even better, disable swimming. post them here.

I thought about that, But at the same time. That prevents you from dying in the Angler base when the oxygen goes out. Plus, I had tried using a gas-mask for a similar effect and it didn't do it for me.
Does anybody know where the submarine is?

The mod Experimental Black Mesa Entities or Weapons comes with pathway markers, useful for exploring on foot and finding your way back to whatever base you came from

Yeah, but the P.E.S's effects are pretty cool. Just a shame that it makes you immune from having no oxygen

You might have a mod conflict or something. Check the original mod's description, the creator listed some addons that conflict with it
There is this addon called "More Post Processing Effects", I recommend you guys to enable the "Vignette" while underwater walking down the ground depth, it's making it more atmospheric (for me) and creepy while it does make your view darker.
