Are we gonna be seeing updated compatibility with customs and other maps?
(for custom weapons, perks, items and maybe character icons)

Unfortunately not, there's too many things to take into consideration for custom maps.

However, I have released the source code and It's publicly available for mappers to add to their maps if they wish.
