That question was spot on. I was playing with mods, although I had no idea that this mod https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2651492771 could break something entirely.
Started to turn off mods one by one, after disabling oClockRadar / Sonar [Alt Appearance] drone started to work. Disabled all the rest, enabled this one - drone is dead.
Maybe it should be mentioned in the description of sub somewhere?

That was totally unexpected - especially - and that is why OUCH! - you do not need that mod installed and activated!!!

You just need to download that image which you can do here with rightclick + save as https://i.imgur.com/3qyi5pR.png

Download and rename it to sonarOverlay.png

And then put it in your game's folder as described

Replace Content/Items/Command/sonarOverlay.png with the downloaded and renamed file.

That way you can use the extra sonar without having the Drone issue to begin with.

Well, how then could I have known that? :) First thing to think is "is there anything in the workshop to replace sonar overlay with?", find that there is, then click and install. If there would not be mods such as these, then I would look it up, and would've found that you can just replace the image. Again, thanks for the advice :)

I have checked the mod of the sonar and found out that there is more than just the needed image. That extra which came along can pretty much be the cause, considering it is all about the navigation terminal for ~ unknown reasons. Like: you absolutely do only need the image.

I hope this fixes the issue for everyone affected. Now everyone can enjoy the drone and the submarine properly!

i still have one question for the drone but i'm not sure if its a bug or not. because when i try to release it, it just goes right back in the sub and i'm not sure what im doing wrong. i am pretty new to the game too so maybe i'm missing something?

i did have that sonar mod installed but i also removed it after reading trough the chat so i think it shouldn't be that anymore

You might just experience the auto-retrieval-feature.

When you activate the drone, make sure to steer it away from the docking port far enough so it can maintain position safely.

If you get close to the docking port, the automatic kicks in like a magnet, and the drone docks back to the ship.

for me even after removing that mod the drone refuses to even move out of its docking area

it just goes in and out of the docking hatch and even when i managed to get it out one time by shooting the sub it just stuck to the ceiling and refused to move any direction but up and sometimes to the sides

We had that before.

The point is the pump und engine do not require power to function.
