They did once made the cow mangler paintable for a short period and now they go for bunch of buds.

The paintable cowmanglers where made from a glitch, valve didnt make them paintable on purpose

The reason it doesnt have team weapon colors is because both engi's have yellow gloves

i never knew the cow mangler was paintable anyone here have one for proof?

Engie doesn't have yellow gloves. He has gloves in Cream Spirit colors but, thanks to Valve laziness, he has gloves in the same color in both teams in first person.

it was not a glitch. The ability to make weapons paintable is in the game files, but deactivated. Valve activated it on the cow mangler for 1 hour by mistake, and some were made.
With the name it has, this weapon should be green rather than yellow, if someone catches the reference.

They did it on purpose, testing out paints on weapons. They forgot to remove it from the end export, though. It shows team colors such as Balaclavas, which means it isn't game breaking. Maybe we could do it like that. Team Colors only.

And now some technical issues: if you want to make weapon paintable you need to turn it on in proper file (not sure which though) and set the paintabilty in material file of this weapon. But... If you do so you'll disable ability for the weapon to glow when crit boosted.
