If i dont get a answer on the main comments thing im going to ask it here how do i get the researcher path that people are talking about?

Choose Santa Fe as captial, dont side with the scientists, do the focus that closes project Mogul.
It is mostly a meme path so dont expect too much

They dont get units

I deleted my army prior to doing the event chain. The Skyhook formed and I told the robot divisions to go straight for the victory points. Units appeared to oppose them that didn't exist prior to me changing nation.

HAH! No, sorry, I worked out what happened. I had some units in training, and they spawned right after the new nation appeared.
