Huh, I honestly have not given SPGs much attention at all and certainly never actually test fired the HE at tanks. I might have to experiment with that a little bit. I havent used SPGs in battle much at all, since they dont seem to like to fire on their own.
Though I dont know why it would do more just hittin the thicker armor vs hitting the engine+rear hull, I suspect the reduced damage for hitting the engine with the HE is due to it having to go through the side hull and then the engine armor itself. Spaced armor effect.....
EDIT: So, I made a quick change to the engine armor of MBTs. Reducing the side, rear and top engine armor from 80 to 52, it makes a rather drastic differnce. Damage is showing to be anywhere between a few points to 200-300 points, seems to depend on how the shell hits the tank. I also did increase minimum damage from 155 to 300. Ill have to make those changes to the other howitzers as well.
Since I first wrote this thread, I have increased side armor values to 90mm for most, if not all the tanks and the TUSK is at 100mm. Side skirts are 85mm. Although, the thinner side armor is meant to be quite thin, since its not always possible to get all the way around a tank, and it becomes very tedious trying to hit a tiny little weakpoint from 200m. It also helps reinforce the idea of properly supporting MBTs instead of sending them off alone, makes them very vulnerable when one get caught out.
One aspect of the Abrams that is very thin and vulnerable, especially to ATGM and HEAT shells, is the 47mm Upper front plate. If you angle your Abrams to far forward and flatten that out to much, it becomes very easy to pen.
however i am THANKFUL that the helicopters dont require 10 HE rounds from a tank to be downed.
I can definitely confirm that just driving around does not cause damage to the vehicle. Hell, you can ram a tank into something and it causes no damage to it. However, if you ram a tank into a lighter vehicle, you can damage, if not out right detonate the lighter vehicle. Tanks overall are alot more vulnerable, so an autocannon in your flank will actually cause some light damage. Large caliber HE in certain locations will also cause damage. Its not driving it around that is damaging it. Or if it is, ive legit never seen it.
Oh wait, what? In what game modes?
If in conquest, did you make sure to hit the resupply button after the battle? In that particular game mode, they will spawn into the next game in the same state they left the previous battle, unless you hit the resupply button.
If in other game modes, I guess ill have to figure it out. THe BTR-80 definitely has spare ammo.
Then again, its call to arms, this game definitely likes to do its own thing.
