I know this is an issue that can occur when first selecting your Starfarer and they proceed to talk, after that exiting the world and going back in fixed it for me personally when I had the issue.
May be a conflict with certain mods installed, not sure since im no expert at this.

if you are using Multiple mods, try disabling all of them and only use StarsAbove and the required mods needed for StarsAbove to work and see if the issue still occurs.

Yes, it was a UI bug that occured when mods were conflicting with eachother,
same as with the bug that makes a good chunk of the weapons useless.
However that is old news by now as im sure they fixed a majority of old bugs.

Btw you're a bit late to some of these threads, most are solved by now or the OP never replied like in this one.

If your using boss cursor, turn it off. For some reason that mod messing with the UI of a lot of other mods, along with a few other mods. I recommend you comment what mods you are using, because a lot of mods can destroy the UI of other mods.
