Weird. Maybe you have conflicting addons, because when I first played this I had tons of lagspikes until I disabled almost all my addons.

just download a mod that allows you to set the texture of props to glow.
if you don't like that then lights tend to bleed through walls, and there are spots where if you have the light be relay bright, and relay harsh(no fading at the edges of the light) and say in another room. Like oh i don't know, the white room hall you can bleed light in. granted, it takes a good lot of trial and error. also you can by pass the limits of sliders by clicking on the number and typing your own.

What mod?

Even in the recent update that removes the VJ Base's campfire to light up the dark room, it's still possible to light it up. Not gonna tell the addon since the creator's gonna patch it but the addon is a camera.
