About generators, its a game bug and they (Eleon) are aware. Solar power is another annoying thing that happens... Keep your fuel thanks full and try to save energy turning off everything idle, like constructors, food processors, furnaces etc... I have this situation even saving energy with fuel tanks full.
I've learned that if you stay away from your base playfield for a long time, the solar power not work in your base and all fuel will be empty. Perhaps its a bug too.
Beware with Teleporters: They consume a lot!

Like mentioned above those would all be game issues.
