how do you make bombs explode anyway???

you can use wiremod, normal bombs have 2 inputs: arm and detonate
for rockets, theres an additional input called launch, which will launch the rocket

you can wire those to a button and then press it to launch a missile/detonate a bomb
note that some bombs cant be selected through the C menu so its hard to wire those, but most of the bombs you can wire easily
