so turns out I had made the "doors" more complicated than it needed to be..

I originally made them so that the handle was a separate door that would parent with the actual thing itself (does that make sense?), which mean't giving them all different names, and now I've figured out that you just select all of the objects and Ctrl T than do stuff from there

so, doing that now! :)
