This kind of thing is true in the base game too with some villains.

The Game involved the Cauldron Environment Dungeon of Terror. I didn't notice it for a while when playing, But got hold of a Screen Shot after slowing down the dialog boxes. It appears to be the dialog box to tell you or not if the card on the top of the trash is a Fate Card or not.

It causes you to discard all cards except one.
It seems to ignore 'on discard' triggers, like Parse's Critical Multiplier.
