You hold it in your hand. If you have say, Evade 6, an attack doing 6 or less damage will cause the card to autoplay and be negated. If not, on the next turn, play it as a block card else it will be discarded as normal. It probably won't seem very useful to start with, but if you have some Dexterity it gets pretty good.
