Are you playing with Phong disabled?

Enemy spawn doors open when you approach them. Can't get inside, but you can shoot in the spawn.

You can't drown in the ocean when you have the "Regeneration"-Powerup equipped.

Hellfire also allows you to stay alive in the lava but thanks for the feedback :)
